Random Thoughts - Not politically correct

Just a few thoughts over coffee this morning listening to the news.

  • Since Obama was elected the actors doing TV commercials have all turned black. OK, not all, but enough to make me notice. Its politically correct I guess. Blacks are what?, 13% of the population but if I were doing nothing, which I ain't, I'd do a survey for an hr or two. This will not be close. I was looking at the Bean catalog...its the same thing. Our local newspaper, the one thats dying because fewer people buy it each month, is guilty of the same thing. The front page photo is of black folks over 90% of the time (OK, I did not count). Thing that strikes me is that, for the most part, black folks around here are not the folks that buy or advertise in newspapers. Its mostly the white folks. and they are buying and advertising less each month. Is there a message here or just a sign of the times?
  • Andy Rooney died. I did not frequently agree with his politics but I admired his ability to boil it down to short sentences without regard for your "stuck out" feelings. I admired him for that. I am becoming a curmudgeon too, I think. Is there a training program for that? Come to think of it, almost everyone I know over 70 is one. I think it must be issued at a certain age.
    •  Oh for a lodge in some vast wilderness,
      Some boundless contiguity of shade,
Where rumour of oppression and deceit,
      Of unsuccessful or successful war,
      Might never reach me more.
      ~William Cowper
      • But then, I got the internet. rats
    •  The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.  ~George Bernard Shaw
  • It is not a fragrant world.  ~Raymond Chandler... Somehow I just don't believe that. Diarrhea has been going around here. Unless you mean a pleasant smell, perhaps.
  • Human Remains, Soldiers, little bitty pieces - In every war, major accident, explosion, etc. there are always very small pieces of "people and animals" that cannot be identified. Not only who they were but also what they were. Thru the ages, these were disposed of as ordinary waste. Buried, burned, thrown out to sea. They were not thought of as something that had to have special handling. It is/was impractical considering the greater job at hand. Nothing wrong with this practice. Most of the time, they were just left on the battle field for the varmints to dispose of. Such are the contingencies of war. Let it be.

  •  Obamalamadingdong continues to entertain me. We all knew he and Bibi didn't see eye to eye. Being a Muslim on the inside does not bode well for all us infidels starting with Israel.  But the latest blunder was to get caught on open mike with the French Pres (Frogs to you WWII folks).

‘I cannot bear Netanyahu. He’s a liar,” French President Nicolas Sarkozy told President Obama last week. Obama seemed to agree, saying,“You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him even more often than you.Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national
